The Monthly Catch-Up: October 2020

ICYMI: Infliction

The Fight Centre returned to fight shows with a bang in October, with five of our Fighters on the card at Infliction. Held at the MX Fight Store in Burleigh, to a capacity crowd, the event was action packed with a day and night card.

Harry “Daddy” Sheppard, Daniel Hearn, Hamish Wilson, Cheyanne Hunt, and Luke Brennan all put on performances filled with heart and grit. From Harry making his fight debut, to Cheyanne, fighting for a WKA QLD Title, TFC’s offering to the card demonstrates the breadth and depth of our Fight Team.

After strong performances, Harry, Daniel and Hamish came away with wins. Despite his otherwise dominant performance, an early knock-down meant the scorecards went against Luke, with his bout ending in a draw. And, in spite of her absolutely heroic effort, Cheyanne was unable to secure a win. Cheyanne’s inspiring performance came off the back of a nightmarish weight cut, all the more evidence of the true fighter she is.

As well as the pride we feel for our Fighters, we are also proud of the support shown from our TFC Family – with a showing from our tribe so large, we created our own section! And with many staying back until almost 1am to watch, and bellow their lungs out, for Luke’s bout.

But the action doesn’t stop there! Make sure to check out our ‘Fight Calendar’ (featured below) as well as our Facebook and Instagram pages to stay up-to-date on upcoming fight events.

Pro-tip: TFC Members also receive access to the TFC – Members Only Facebook Group where you receive more in-depth information on news and content. It’s also a great way to keep each other accountable. We love to see your comments and clips, so keep them coming!

I Don’t Want No Staph

Like Wu-Tang, Staphylococcus Aureus aint nothing to mess with. A wholly unpleasant bacterial infection, staph is a concern for every member, especially as summer approaches. What can appear as an innocent bump or red mark can become something much, much more dangerous.

To get the low down on what staph is, the symptoms and how to avoid infecting yourself and others, we asked Jacob Knight (long-time TFC member and microbiologist) to drop some knowledge. Check out his definitive guide here.

Sleep, Compete, Rinse, Repeat

As you grow in your BJJ practice, competition is an excellent way to test and improve your skills, stamina and resilience. But which is the right competition for you?

Luckily for us, Bryson Smith (TFC Member and BJJ Blue Belt) has broken down the key competitions in Queensland. Check out his break down here.

Throwback: Pride FC

As predecessor of the UFC, Pride FC still brought the goods as the Mixed Martial Arts genre took shape.

We take a look at some of the most memorable fighters and bouts from Wanderlei ‘The Axe Murderer’ Silva, Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva, Ricardo ‘The Brazilian Tiger’ Arona, and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

Take a trip down memory lane here.

To Train or Not to Train – That is the Question …

Consistent training is critical to achieving your goals – but where do you draw the line between productive and unproductive training? Factoring rest into your training schedule ensures you’re able to continue for the long haul. After all, reaching your goals is a marathon, not a sprint.

We take a look at four common scenarios when taking appropriate rest is key. Check it out here.

All We Do is Win, Win, Win…

Each month, we use this part of ‘The Monthly Catch-Up’ to celebrate the wins of our amazing TFC Community. Reflecting on and celebrating our wins helps us to remember where we’ve come from and the progress we’ve made. Far from being a self-indulgent exercise, it helps build and re-affirm our self-belief in what we can achieve.  Over the past few months, we have loved hearing about the progress our members are making towards their goals.

 Name: Bethany and Rob Wolff

Win: Both Robbie and I handed I our last uni assignments this month! While I still have plenty to go before I finish my degree, Robbie’s assignment was the last for his current Master’s Degree! This is the second Master’s degree he will have completed and graduated from in 2020! It’s been a mammoth effort from him this year and I’m really proud A total win!

Thank you Bethany and Rob for your win and congratulations on your amazing achievements! If you would like to submit your win, please contact us!
